You like more well thought out and intellectual horror films by the sound of it. I do too, but I like fun ones as well.
Hellraiser
is a Clive Barker film, so it had some strong credentials.

I just watched the trailer. I don't like films that derive their horror from gross distortions, blood and guts. No thanks.

I love em! Do you find them too disturbing? I'd say you wouldn't like
The Thing - '82
then.
The best horror can be psychological horror.
Rosemary's Baby - '68
I find one of the best.

I find them too
gross and disgusting.
Ironically though, I
did
like
The Thing-
- And yes, the best horror usually is psychological. I also liked
Rosemary's Baby.

Its the context of the gore presented and the skill that can make or break these films.
A horror film like
Hellraiser
is middling, in the sense that it was original and broke some new ground, but the casting was off. Some good performances and some weak casting with average acting. It's actually quite tame compared to what we view today, but still has an interesting subversive quality to it.
Its main theme is about lust and attachment to the flesh that creates suffering in our lives.
