It's easier to stream. Both on legal streaming apps and those illegal sites.
Plus less storage space for DVDs

While DVDs are indeed, disgusting I don't think that's the reason traditional video rental has gone out of fashion.
It's just a matter of better things being available.
You don't have to walk to Netflix, it's more value for money and better quality.

What was wrong with the actual store? Blockbuster and maybe some others, not sure what kinds. There are small unlikely shops, of course, like in old cities of major interest- sold by aficionados. (a fish ion ado's)

They all shut down because streaming became more popular and less people rented physical copies. I blame netflix because they used to use a post system where they delivered movies to you and you posted them back once done.
