It was ok. Truthfully I'm tired of the holiday. I liked it when I was dating and during maybe my first year of marriage to two but after that it kind of gets old to have treat things "special" on this one day.
We just cooked dinner together and wrote each other a nice message in this journal we keep.
I wouldn't care if my wife never wanted to acknowledge it again.
When we were dating we did stuff. I went down to her office and decorated it and put some gifts on her desk so that she'd be surprised when she got to work in the morning. She surprised me by letting herself into my apartment and had cooked dinner for me so when I got home she was there with everything. It was fun when we were a new couple but after being together for a few years it's just work.

A date took you to Golden Corral? How long have you been dating?
We usually stay in and cook a meal together now but during our first year's of marriage we went out to nice Italian restaurants on Valentine's Day. After a few years of treating ourselves we grew tired of how they hiked the prices on VD and offered only special menus on that day but we enjoyed treating ourselves our first couple of years as a couple.
Golden Corral? That's like taking you to McDonald's.
I don't think this guy sounds like a keeper. That's not where you take someone you are dating for Valentine's Day. If he had no money, if he had that quality to make you feel special than he could have cooked you a special dinner himself.
My "this doesn't sound quite right" gut feeling is going off. You might want to keep looking for a new guy.

It was okay, I guess. Circumstances prevented me from sending anything to my gal. I couldn't even send her an eCard, so I just asked her to be my Valentine over the phone.

My church group went to
Saltgrass Steakhouse
on Sat. night to celebrate. I have not been to
Golden Corral
in over 10 years but it was pretty nasty when I did eat there. Unless the food quality has improved DRASTICALLY, I can't feature you enjoying the dining experience, so I am not surprised.
Your date should have counted his money before you ordered. If he didn't have enough to eat there, you all could choose
Chick-fil-a
which at least has a better taste. -

I've only been to Saltgrass once, perhaps fifteen years ago, and was appalled by what's evidently customary in steak restaurants now: they pour a cup of melted butter on top of the steak. I specifically asked them not to do it to mine, and they did it anyway. I sent it back, and apparently all they did was pick it up and pour off the excess, and brought it back out to me.
