Following an outcry from French womens groups over the selection of Roman Polanski as President of next months César Awards, the filmmaker has pulled out of the post. Polanskis attorney told Agence France Presse on Tuesday morning that he has renounced the position, but called the polemic unjustified. The Académie des Arts et Techniques, which oversees Frances equivalent to the Oscars, has not yet responded to Polanskis decision.

I know exactly what happened just like I know Polanski has been a coward for decades.
He has a tremendous amount of success despite beinga perv, so no need to reward him even more as if nothing happened.

If you mean he is a pèrv becuase he had sex with a minor then that is an unfair characterisation. Polanski, security guard etc have all testified that the minor looked at the very least 18. It was an honest mistake.

Polanski knew exactly how old the girl was, you pedophile supporting asshat. He knew her mother and asked her mother's permission to photograph her. You don't ask a parent's permission to photograph an adult. Not only was it statutory rape, it was rape by any definition of the word since the girl protested and was forced, not just coerced.
Hunters have a perverted gun fetish, so sayeth a terrorist supporting kiddie-fiddler.

So what? Most people would ask a parent if they could photograph their 18 year old or 19 or even 20 year old kid.
e, it was rape by any definition of the word since the girl protested and was forced, not just coerced.
The court cleared him of these charges.

Good argument. Even if I am wrong there is still a lot of evidence Polanski didnt know, that is why the court wanted to go easy on him. At the very least Polanski asking her parent was just odd.

Following the nominations announcement, Terzian also briefly addressed the Polanski controversy, calling the director "a great figure of global cinema" who has been honored by the Golden Globes, Oscars, Cannes' Palme d'Or and and the Venice and Berlin film festivals. "He is a great artist of the world."
He concluded: "Polanski decided not to take the position, I don't get involved in these types of scandals. The only thing we need to look at is his work as an artist."
And there you have it. Do anything you want as long as you make a good movie!

I kind of agree with it tho. I think back to stuff like Mel Gibsons Jewish rants and how I still enjoyed his films regardless of any of his personal faults. The quote isn't saying it's ok what he did, just that Terzian respects his work as an artist.

Although it is difficult for me to watch a Polanski film, I get that as long as people are willing to give him work and acclaim, he will gladly accept that.
However, since he ran away from a legitimate punishment, he should always feel some pain until he faces up to that especially when it's something as minor as not being able to judge other films.
