best is a subjective term, but i'd cite
American Tabloid
as easily my favourite. I was surprised at how easy to follow i found it.
and u?
EDIT: I'd love some recs on his older work/short stories etc.

I've read most of his books and reckon LA Confidential is the best of the bunch. Most of the others are far too long and/or depressing.
