game was installed on millions of office computers.
The software's creators floated their chicken on the stock market.
And ended up in prison after an accounting scandal.
Markus Scheer, then CEO of the software company Phenomedia AG, with a stuffed moorhen in April 2002.
Disguised as hunters and armed with laptops, advertising teams toured German pubs in late 1998. To promote the
Johnnie Walker whisky
brand, they presented night owls with a computer game – Moorhuhn (Moorhen or Crazy Chicken). Those who aimed well on the screen received a free drink.
The craze began about a year later, as the game was downloaded millions of times onto German computers – including in offices, which caused a stir in numerous companies. Some bosses feared that employees would spend hours chasing the colourful chickens and neglect their jobs.
