This is how socialism works in practice. People think that under socialism, a free lunch is free. It ain't: somehow, somebody's gotta pay for it, and ultimately the masses are the ones who pay for it.

The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples' money.
According to that big old computer thinking brain machine known as Google, it was another Brit PM - Margaret Thatcher - who uttered those most pithy words.
It does sound rather Churchillian though, now that you mention it. -

Read this yesterday and decided I'd better get to Costco before their prices rise. ¡Surprise! Nothing was higher last night and Extra Virgin Olive Oil was $2 less than I expected to pay.

That sucks to hear the prices went up.
Yeah, it was a sucky moment for me when I saw so many prices had increased, because I'd found a sort of comfort zone at my local Winco, knowing I could rely on them for much lower prices than competing stores in my area.
Anyway, here's a small sample of some sticker shock I got yesterday: a can of Dennison's Chili used to be $1.26 just a couple weeks ago when I was there last… it's now
$1.93
. A carton of Dreyer's ice cream was $2.78 a few weeks ago… it's now
$4.04
. A bag of Dole mixed salad was $.98… it's now
$1.29
. Pepperidge Farm Chocolate Collection cookies were $4.98 a box… now
$7.60

Those are some big increases especially that dreyers and pepperidge farm!
Luckily I haven't seen too many increases as of yet besides gas knock on wood.
Not to get too political but maybe it has something to do with the new administration?
