Sub woofer crossover interference help

Sub woofer frequency or volume on sub woofer seems to affect general volume.
If I increase the frequencies on the sub woofer the main volume is louder, then I lower the frequency same
Setup Yamaha RX V 735 Reiciever Klh center/rear speakers Bose fronts Sony sa wm250 sub woofer

Is it hooked up using an RCA patch cable, or through the speaker connectors?

It shouldn't cause any interference. All I can suggest is to use an SPL meter or app to set the subwoofer level to match the main speakers. Having the sub 10 db too loud just makes the bass sound flabby.
