Why do people mount their TVs so high on the wall?

Interesting point.
The sports bar!!!
That's what it seems like in some of the otherwise lovely homes I have seen them mounted, and it wasn't for lack of a place to put them…
Not when there was a nice credenza a couple of feet under the mounted TV with wires hanging down.
I've gotten some logical answers here, so I think I can understand some of the reasons, but who wants to strain their necks looking up at the ceiling when you can watch comfortably at eye level? The morons!
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Do you suppose that it might be a generational thing?

We grew up with console TVs, or is it just that we simply don't care to be straining our necks by looking up at the ceiling while watching?
I choose the latter.
My husband says both

I actually have seen some mounted that high.
What makes you think that I haven't asked those people this question?
I'm here asking you now.
This is called starting a conversation on a message board. Did you foget where you are?

I got many answers. I even got a response from you.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day. Have a good one.

I wondered that as well because what you mentioned is the very first thing I thought of. It's like sitting in the front row of a movie theatre. When we went to see Blair Witch (of all movies) we were stuck in one of the front rows and sweet Jesus, I had a migraine for 2 days and neck strain! Double whammy!

Yes! It's just like that!
The front row really isn't all It's cracked up to be…
(I get the feeling that your Blair Witch experience wasn't all that you had heard it would be???)

By the way…
I got a headache while watching The Blair Witch Project, but it wasn't from sitting in the front row…
It was that shaking camera!

If you are missing something, you aren't alone. It's the one and only movie I ever saw where I wanted my money back!
I should have left halfway through. I could have possibly received half of my money, but I sat all the way through, expecting it to finally get good!
What the hell was going on in the corner of the basement?
Someone taking a piss???
I was underwhelmed to say the least.
