Lol, it would be ironic if the penis enthusiast happened to be a vegan; wouldn’t you think?

No, but my dinner is. I don't eat other carnivores.

        You don't eat fish?

Not fish that eat other fish, as far as I'm aware.

Some people differentiate between fish and "meat", meaning red meat. I don't see the difference.

I make no distinction other than one form of meat walks the earth and the other swims it.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the fish I eat eats fish itself (tuna?), but I'm not informed enough to say, and too lazy to Google, so…

Tuna eat other fish. Funny how kosher Jews won't eat lobster because it's a bottom feeder.

The strange thing about kosher is the restrictions are all on food that can be dangerous to eat if prepared incorrectly. It's flawed rationale, but they're wise to avoid those things.

Sure, like pork can spoil easily, especially without refrigeration. I suppose the Hebrews were wise to avoid it.

Maybe the elders knew that pork and shellfish were dangerous, and in those days, the way to control people was to say God had instructed them.

I'm less cynical. I think there was common sense and a natural order which they attributed to god.

I don't think they were trying to control people by invoking god. I think over the centuries they learned eating pork could be dangerous, so it's prohibition was part of the natural order they attributed to god.

Okay, so we 100% agree. My language could perhaps be perceived as cynical, but it wasn't intended as such.
I imagine there were a number of deaths from eating pork/shellfish and the elders have spotted the pattern, deemed those foods off limits, and then speculated on the reasons why they were bad.
God was of course the reason for everything in ancient times and so it was naturally considered his will that those foods be avoided. The reason he wanted them avoided was man made though, so at some point somebody has had to turn speculation into "fact".

Unlike a lot of atheists I'm not hostile to religion. It made sense for them to believe in a god.

If you both had to pick one religion though, which one would you choose to follow, and why? Since I tend to disagree with a lot of the beliefs in every bible that I read, I’m currently agnostic.

Hinduism. It's pantheistic and I'm an atheist but a pantheist as well. I'm not a nihilist and believe there is an unexplained order to the universe.
