Two weeks ago, a dead wolf was found in a chapel near Waldweiler.
Since then, the question is: Accident or a deliberate killing?
The cause of death is still under investigation. For Mayor Manfred Rauber, the discovery remains inexplicable.
"We never had anything like this in Waldweiler before; we were quite surprised.
It's well known that we have 2 wolf families here, but finding one in a chapel is unprecedented."

Numerous Wildlife cameras in the Waldweiler Forest
At least 8 wolves are believed to roam an area of approximately 600 hectares. Wildlife cameras are installed throughout the forest. A wolf was filmed in a clearing on Christmas Eve. The forest is rich in wildlife – deer and stags are the wolves' prey. Nevertheless, a wolf family killed an animal in a pasture last year. Experts say it's nothing unusual. Where are wolves, there will always be occasional dead animals.
So far, living with wolves apparently wasn't a major problem for the people of Waldweiler.

On January 14th, 2026 Pirsch.de reported on a wolf found in a chapel near Waldweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate. While the cause of death remains unclear and is currently under investigation, there is news from the village of 800 inhabitants.
