Ok, but if money doesn't buy happiness, what does? Happy people live an average of 7.5-10 years longer, leastwise according to a study from the University of Warwick. The question of happiness not only fills countless books, articles and movies, but a Google search for
"happiness"
also spits out an unbelievable 111 million results in just 0.30 seconds. How can we make sense of it all?

Happiness Index of 147 countries
Israel remains #8
In the International Happiness Index, Israel once again ranks 8th among 147 countries.
The highest-ranked Arab state is in 21st place.
The darker the colour, the happier the inhabitants of the respective country.
Israelis continue to be more satisfied than average with their personal circumstances:
In the International Happiness Index, Israel ranks eighth for the second year in a row.
The
"State of Palestine"
improves its ranking by one place to 108th.
Finland
once again tops the list
. It's followed by Iceland and Denmark, which swapped places.
Costa Rica (ranked 6th last year), Sweden (3rd), Norway (7th), the Netherlands (5th),
Israel, Luxembourg (9th) and Switzerland (13th) occupy places 4 through 10.
Germany climbs from 22nd to 17th, Austria falls slightly from 17th to 19th.
The USA is in 23rd place (24th), the Russian Federation in 79th place (66th).
United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia lead among Arab Countries
The highest-ranked Arab country is once again the United Arab Emirates, maintaining its 21st place from last year. Saudi Arabia follows directly behind at 32. Among the other Abraham Accords states, Bahrain improves from 59th to 55th place, while Morocco remains at 112th. Sudan and Kazakhstan didn't participate in the study.
Turkey remains at 94th place, as it was in 2024, while Iran now ranks 97th (99th).
Jordan is at 119th (128th), Egypt at 139th (135th) and Lebanon at 141st (145th).
At the bottom of the list, starting at 142nd place, are Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Sierra Leone. Afghanistan occupies the 147th and last place, as it did last year. North Korea wasn't included in the study.
Positive Aspects of Israel: Social Support and Life Expectancy
One factor in the survey is social support; according to the study's authors, it accounts for 22% of the
total score. Here, Israel ranks 18th. In terms of GDP per capita, reported at USD 48,339, it ranks 26th.
Life expectancy also plays a role. In the Jewish state, it averages 70.8 years, placing it 9th. This factor contributes 13% to the overall result.
However, Israel ranks only 95th in terms of personal freedom; this has a 12% impact. Generosity (ranked 44th) and the perception of corruption (34th) are of lesser importance, accounting for 2% and 3%.
Israel ranks between 4th and 14th
The World Happiness Index is compiled annually in partnership with the USA polling institute Gallup and the UN Network for Sustainable Development Solutions. The initiative originated with Bhutan, which introduced Resolution 65/309:
"Happiness: Towards a Holistic Approach to Development."
It was adopted by the UN General Assembly on July 19, 2011. March 20th is since celebrated as the International Day of Happiness.
The Jewish state achieved its highest ranking to date, 4th place in 2022.
Its lowest ranking so far was 14th place in 2019. Israel's average ranking is 10th.
