Also stand in place and thrust out your pelvis repeatedly. Great for the core.

This is insanely stupid advice.
High carbs will make you fat on a lifting routine. If you are running or biking great distances, it's okay.
However, if you don't get grams of protein near your amount of lean muscle mass, in grams, you will experience muscle wasting, not growth.
That is why many long distance runners look like mummies and not muscular. They can't get enough protein to repair what they are using doing all of that running. -

Low weight high volume is hard, but typically not injurious.
So, he can lift something 100 times and have success without injury.
Having high expectations is a good thing for a person like this.
Having low expectations is a bad things because he already has those.
He needs some "holy ****" experiences to prove to himself he's not a loser. In addition, what I told him to do will work. He will change as a result. So, an anxious negative person is going to SEE SUCCESS and they will not be able to deny it.
Secondly, you can't engage in mutually exclusive behaviors.
You can't smile and frown.
If you smile more or force yourself to smile, literal "smile chemicals" get trigger in you body, thus leading to more smiling. Just the same if you workout hard, that will trigger positive chemicals, if you are proud you did the hard workout, that will trigger positive chemicals, and if you start feeling hard muscles, that will trigger positive chemicals.
So, working out triggers positive chemicals and the new beliefs about yourself trigger them too.
So that state of being is now in opposition to the previous negative drug, give up, state of being.
I have been hired for jobs due to how I look. People believe I stick to a regime, I do not give up, and am aware, and so on. They are correct!
If outsiders can see this, imagine what it feels like to be that type of person.
Our pothead buddy and push out aspects of his current self and replace them with motivated and determined aspects of himself. BUT he has to be doing something that works.
