Who said Yum Yum was bipolar?
Then again, people throw that term and “mentally ill” around like it’s Reese’s pieces.

Interesting. I haven’t talked to her in years. Who diagnosed that and why? What’d she say?

The one thing you and no one else has talked about is the withdrawal from certain drugs that cause much more problems.

If they stopped overprescribing them in the first place, that wouldn’t be such an issue.
I remember when I was 23, I was on them for a month and they made me feel much worse. I chucked them out swiftly and never looked back.

Whether or not bipolar is an actual medical condition, I can't say. There may be some people who have such severe swings between 'high' and 'low' that they require medication.
But I think most these fools who say they are bipolar are just assholes making excuses for being assholes. "Oh, I'm a prick, but don't blame me, I'm sick!!! I'll be nice later."
And of course the pharmaceutical industry wants to make money off drugs so they're all for it!!!
Again though, there may be some people who have such a medical condition. But there's grown up a whole 'bipolar' culture around the idea which is a bunch of nonsense.

I guess you know nothing about it?
Bipolar doesn't mean you switch back and forth in a day. They may be level for years and will suddenly have a high that can last for a few months followed by a low.
It's not about having mood swings.

I don't claim to know much about it. I conceded that it may be very real for many of those diagnosed.
But I have seen it used it as an excuse for just rude abysmal behavior. I'm thinking in particular of a friend's boyfriend who would horribly abuse her, verbally. She would just excuse him as being "bipolar". Sorry, sick or not sick, there's no excuse for being an asshole.

Sounds like she's using "bipolar" in the same way others use "retarded".

No, "retarded" is used as an insult without intending to give a legitimate diagnosis. It's much like the oft-used term "clown nose" in that respect.
She was actually giving her boyfriend a medical excuse to be an asshole.
                      See the difference now?*

But as with the people who say "retarded" she's using a real condition to explain another person's behaviour.
I'd like to know what his psychiatrist thinks.

He was actually diagnosed with bipolar though.
My bottom line on this: Sure, the person may have a legitimate medical condition. But they may be using this medical condition as an excuse to behave like dickwads.
And then there's all these other non-diagnosed people who excuse their own anti-social behavior by saying they're bipolar.
Like I said, it's become a subculture of dysfunction.

I might be using my condition as an excuse to avoid answering questions. I also might be using my limp as an excuse for not hurrying up.
