But if they don’t have a thing that doesn’t exists, how could they worry about that thing?
I don’t mean to be flippant, but I’m not convinced it’s not a made up disease with the intention to sell pills.

Well that’s what people tend to say when the think a mental condition doesn’t really exist. Perhaps you should have this conversation with people who have the condition (or claim to have the condition) as they might know more about it. Perhaps no mental illnesses exist and those that claim to have them are just being weak (as Irate Customer once stated over at the old place).

Now, I wouldn’t go that far, but they’ve made mental instability damn near trendy these days. When you and I were growing up, mental instability was actually serious sh!t
Nowadays, apparently everyday is bipolar.

When Stamma starts cursing, you KNOW you have overstepped the line. That is something he rarely does because he is always so calm, cool, and collected.

Ehh, he’s been grumpy and depressed lately. I’m the one who’s had to deal with the repercussions with folks that have been institutionalized, and also consequences of being prescribed meds I don’t need.
So, if anyone gets offended, it’s me. Not someone that’s not dealt with it.

I try to avoid talking about my experiences and things people I know and am close to due to my identity being “out there” and certain types who will latch onto details and use them. If you or anyone you are close to has had to deal with REAL mental illness then I apologise for the outburst and I hope you’ll deal with someone more knowledgeable and erudite than me (such as Stephen Fry) next time you decide to dismiss or downplay bipolar disorder.

I understand and get why you would not want to put out more information about yourself on this board.
If you or anyone you are close to has had to deal with REAL mental illness
That’s so bizarre; what does that even mean? I’ve said multiple times throughout the thread why I feel the way I do in regards to bipolar diagnoses, and how mental illness, and even people being institutionalized, has impacted my life. What is it you even think inspired me to post the thread? Why do you think I bring up people getting false diagnoses to sell drugs so frequently.
I don’t why you’re responding with snark as if that’s lost on you.

I think J-Curl started out trying to make a point about Bipolar Disorder, then lost sight of his trail of breadcrumbs, and got derailed somewhere along the way.

It’s not stupid at all. Bipolar disorder has been used as a scapegoat to sell drugs to people who don’t need them when, in actuality, they are in need of talk therapy. Most people need to learn how to regulate and manage their emotions, not be drugged up by pharmaceuticals.
The stupid one seems to be you and people that are easily brainwashed by every new trend in pop-psychology.
I’m curious cause you make such a ridiculous indictment: Have you ever been on psychiatric drugs yourself and had to deal with people who have been regularly institutionalized?

Yes, there are some things y’all therapy won’t fix and meds have to come into play. Have you ever been on meds yourself? Keep in mind, managing your emotions is not at all an easy thing to do. The overwhelmingly majority of people do not have a chemical imbalance in the brain.
I’m thinking of the people who are saying Kanye West is mentally unstable when he’s clearly not. People that are schizophrenic or with DSM disorders are not functional in society.
