Old Tom

Old Tom (ca. 1895 – September 17, 1930) was known to whalers in the port of Eden, New South Wales, on the southeast coast of Australia. Old Tom measured 22 feet (6.7 m) and weighed 6 tons, with a 3.33 feet (1 m) skull and teeth about 5.31 inches (13.4 cm) long.
That makes Old Tom a smaller male orca, and at age 35 he even died untimely.
Orcas can become 50-90 years old.
By (carelessly) betraying Old Tom, the people of Eden expelled themselves from Paradise.

I hate the whole idea of 'whaling', but that sure was an interesting symbiotic relationship between Orcas and humans - ruined by the humans who couldn't keep quiet about it. Old Thom swimming with dolphins is amazing too because Orcas eat dolphins. You post some really interesting stuff!
Btw. I've 'grown' about 35 monarch butterflies this Spring. I brought the caterpillars inside as soon as I found them to save them from the wasps. Only 4 chrysalises left now and one of them will pop today. -

Well, the whalers from Eden carelessly didn't give Old Tom his share of the catch (whale tongue) and in the ensuing
'argument'
even broke 1-2 of his teeth, which led to his death 7 years later. This finally broke the pact
"Law of Tongue"
and humans never hunted alongside orcas again.

You'd be the only one here that gives a fat rat's ass about my butterflies so I didn't take any photos or videos of them hatching this year to post on the site. I don't need pictures or videos to remind me of this yearly miracle because I live with it constantly.

It's always nice how you try to cheer me up!
You should be a little careful, because I also attended several courses on how to deal pedagogically with angry people and immediately notice when someone talks to me like I'm a sick dog.
