I believe after slavery was abolished the democratic party moved to the coastal cities and the republicans moped up all the troubles that the democrats left behind (Not very quickly though!).
So if you are a fan of the democrats and they are in power when you ask this question then I'd say yes, the democrats eventually won the civil war by moving themselves to the coasts and away from the South

Is that actually based on history, or is that your impression?

You're the one posing as someone with inside information about the US political system Jared, this should have been taught to you on day one of US Political History 101.
The Republicans are the ones who freed people from servitude; slavery. Who do you think opposed them?
          (Hint, it was the Democrats).

            'posing'?!? Oh my giddy aunt!
If you don't use the word Reconstruction then we are talking alternate histories, my friend.

Abe Lincoln, the president who freed the slaves from their Southern oppressors, was a republican.
Those who opposed him were democrats. He was murdered by a Know Nothing party member but when you look into their ideas of temperance and progression you can easily see the Democratic party of today and their pious authoritarian controlling overreach.
After the war was won the republicans moved into the South to help build a new and better infrastructure. People still had their ingrained ways of thinking though and were against giving them up. John Wilkes Booth, who I inferred towards earlier, was a member of the Know Nothing party. That party had its roots in being a secret society and opposing strength through stealth.
Once their chapters started calling themselves the Klu Klux Klan it was associated with republican leadership in the area. Have your press talk about that in those progressive cities and all of a sudden the Democratic party are the good guys after a generation or two
I don't know which version of history you've read but I'm happy to deconstruct it and compare it to my knowledge.
I'm always open to being corrected Jared

You can simplify- Reconstruction was a failure, and in the end the North allowed southern planters and politicians to preserve as much of their power and wealth as possible.

My argument rests on the fact that it was the Republican party which ended slavery within the United States of America.
                  Those opposing them were democrats.
I don't think it needs to go beyond that really.
                  The Democratic party supported slavery.

That's undeniable- the 19th century Republican Party.

                        I dunno but how come
                        all
the black people in the USA didn't move back to Africa after they were freed? How come they still haven't? Instead, they stay in the USA, populate, go to college, get married, get jobs/careers, join the US military, buy stuff (Large screen televisions, expensive sports vehicles, expensive video game systems)
                        ??????????
