Art Carney did in fact do a movie about the Mount St. Helens eruption⦠He played a real-life character named Harry Truman who refused to evacuate the area despite being warned repeatedly about the impending volcano danger⦠and died in the eruption. Shit got real on this day, May 18, 1980.

Oh yeah! Like it happened yesterday. I even took a chopper ride over it back in 2013.
It was still smoking, which was kind of creepy.

It was awesome. That day was an amazing, unforgettable mind-blowing trip. I was here for it. We said goodbye to our beautiful, beloved Mount St. Helens that day, arguably the most beautiful snow-covered peak in the entire Cascade Mountain Range.

If you grew up here (before 1980, that is) and had seen Mount St. Helens in all her snow-capped glory, you'd know the sadness with which we saw her demolished in the volcanic eruption of May 18, 1980. For many of us, it was a very sad day!
