    Kristin Chenoweth
    and
    Alan Cumming
    introduced
    Rose Byrne
    and
    Bobby Cannavale
. They could've mentioned that they have all been in screen adaptations of
    ANNIE
    .
I was also dissapointed that the Best Play nominees didn't recreate scenes on stage.
From what I've read, Best Musical winner FUN HOME it was the less bombastic of the nominees, so they shouldn't have chosen a ballad to perform it. For all of us who don't live in New York, we only have these performances as guides to choose which show to root for.

It's also sad that shows are now so dependent on Tony recognition - even nominations - that DOCTOR ZHIVAGO folded when it failed to get any nominations, and now THE VISIT, which came up empty-handed last night, has announced its closing. It should have had a longer run, because how likely is it that Broadway will see Chita Rivera in another show?
      In
      my
      case, self-absorption is
      completely
      justified.

Well, to see a play/musical is quite expensive. More expensive than going to the movies or buying a record. Unless you're rich and/or live in NYC and the nearby areas, you're gonna wanna see something you know you're gonna like. So the Tonys help people narrow down their choices.
