For some reason whales strand themselves much too often in New Zealand. My friends and I were walking up our local beach very early one morning and we came across a small beached whale. We rang the police and they got in touch with Project Jonah immediately. Within minutes there was a whole group of people on the beach with all kinds of gear to get the little guy back to sea. It was a pygmy blue whale and we watched as they got it onto a kind of hammock and motored it out into the deep. Then we all cheered as it swam off! It didn't come back thank goodness. I'll never forget that morning.

Notifying the police, and then of course, yours and
              Johna

Most people just stand around and watch them die (not just whales). โ˜ป
It's a mystery why some whales beach, sometimes even several of them.
Wild theories in the comments (giant squid, collective suicide).
Possible โ€” as stated in the video โ€” that they accidentally got into shallow water when the tide was going out.
Or did they flee in panic from danger? We don't know.
              However, here's one of
              'my'
              favourite rescues again.

His colleague got some nasty comments for just watching.
I prefer the idea that he was watching his back. ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธโ€‹๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธโ€‹

The icing on the cake is the Deputy's final remark to the sunfish:

Yes, there are many good people and that gives hope, despite all evil.

                        P.S.
This stranded beaked whale on Sylt (North Sea) was completely emaciated and had a fungal infection. Passersby tried to return him to the sea, but their efforts were hopeless. Therefore, even this hardcore animal rights activist โ˜๐Ÿผโ€‹ also felt the coup de grรขce was appropriate. Because several beaked whales stranded and died in the Baltic Sea recently, the exact cause of death is investigated.

Rescuers plan to free a stranded Humpback Whale using Excavators
A wide trench will be dug in front of the whale's head using floating equipment.
According to experts, the whale's chances of survival are slim.
The stranded humpback whale is about 12-15 meters long and weigh approximately 15 tons.
Another rescue operation for the whale stranded in Lรผbeck Bay is scheduled to begin this Thursday.
Two floating excavators will be launched into the water to dig a 50-meter-long, 6-meter-wide and
1.20-meter-deep trench in front of the whale's head.
Wind and streams pose particular challenges for the rescue operation, excavator operator Tim Lรถhndorf
                          of the company
                          ร–kologischer Gewรคsserdienst Wandhoff
told the dpa. Measurements also revealed that the humpback whale is larger than initially thought, estimated to be 12-15 meters long and weigh approximately 15 tons, according to the Institute for Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Research (ITAW).
