It was back when people would just do exactly as they were told and not allowed to think for themselves and experiment.
I don't know who it was that taught them that method (Some idiot for sure) but once they saw how easy it all was and the possibilities beyond it there was no stopping them.
Graphs for every meeting, mail merges and cells with correct conditioning which could be shared on an Access database system with the correct permissions.
To further you abacus analogy it was like they were early Sumerians and a few weeks later were using tickertape transactions across the Pacific.
It's amazing what a little bit of guidance can do to people who have all the energy and motivations but are lost as to how to apply them

And why does ArcGIS make it such a pain in the Boomshit to export their attribute tables to excel? I have to go through about 5 different menus when a simple copy and paste should be good enough in a better world.
