I pet my cat once and I came down with toxoplasma gondii. Then I pet my dog and it gave me the diabeetus. I don't pet them no more.

Why make up such a pathetic story?
You have some issues, and it's easy to psychoanalyse them. Swap people for animals. You seem to quite dislike physical contact yourself, but you'll endure it for the sake of making the other person like you.
But. Sometimes the one you want to woo, will bite ya.

I just wanted cute animal friends like a Disney Princess. I even chased a deer once but couldn't get close enough to pet him. It's the animals with the fear of intimacy, not me, sister.
