i didnt mention 'chemistry.' i said the word 'natrium' gives us Na which is the symbol for sodium. YOU asked for the origin. here is a quote from the discussion link above.summary is that sodium was discovered from caustic soda which was called NaOh. here is the quote
"Sodium was named sodium because it was isolated from caustic soda (NaOH).Caustic soda was known as natronlauge in Germany. L. W. Gilbert wanted the element to be called natronium but J.J. Berzelium preferred natrium.
Either way, we call it sodium and it's symbol is derived from natronium/natrium because of the German word natronlauge."
if you refuse to accept the truthful answer to your own question then that is a serious psychological problem you must deal with

          You are right.
Lara, the real plebe here, wants you to mention that caustic soda was used to isolate sodium in its discovery.
Being the third elements on the period table does allow for it to have a quirky origins to my mind.

It's from the Latin word for sodium. I read and write Latin, puto cabrón!

There is no point in participating in your little quizzes. You only insult the people who do, and if someone does come up with the right answer, you either don't acknowledge it, or you add a twist to the right answer and say it's not right because the person forgot to dot an I or cross a T.
In other words, you run a crooked game.
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

It was discovered by English chemist, Humphry Davy, back in the year of 1807. The origin of the names comes from the Latin word natrium, meaning sodium carbonate.
