They didn't give anything to private companies, you incredible nincompoop! In a free country like ours, private companies are free to do pretty much whatever they want, including space exploration.
This is not true in totalitarian regimes, or in backwater countries like, oh I don't know, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and oh yeah,
Romania.

Her heart wrenching final communication was in the video which I posted earlier. This is just more proof that the old Soviet totalitarian regime never gave a **** about its people. To them, the State was more important than any individual. The bastards!
The same thing was evident in the excellent HBO series Chernobyl where the government was WAY more concerned with covering up the accident, instead of helping their people. Mikhail Gorbachev said that he thinks Chernobyl helped lead to the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
