Concerns about the Situation in Mexico ahead of the World Cup are growing.
The killing of drug lord Nemesio
        "El Mencho"
Oseguera Cervantes triggered a wave of violence across
much of Mexico. The government deployed 10,000 soldiers to try to control the situation.
Guadalajara (state capital of Jalisco) is scheduled to host 4 World Cup matches, is particularly affected.
Matches from the remaining playoffs are set to take place there in just one month.

You are aware, aren't you, that this truly should be a daily reminder?

A lot of people would be disappointed if the tennis match didnt still go on. I think that takes precedence over any safety concerns.

                šŸŽ¾ā€‹
After the Australian Open, Alexander Zverev took a short break.
He's now back at the Mexican Open in Acapulco.
The German tennis star is relaxed and unfazed.
He just wants to have fun – and it shows.
The only thing that was blurry during the first game in Acapulco was the picture.

Tennis in a warzone would actually make tennis interesting for once.

Mexico in the Grip of Drug Cartels
Mexico wants to present itself as a safe country at the World Cup.
Drug cartel violence escalated, and experts see significant risks for fans and teams.
But FIFA has no Plan B.
Drug cartel violence is part of everyday life in Mexico.
                      ….
                      ….
Cartels want to profit from the World Cup
                      āš½ā€‹
The FIFA World Cup in Mexico attracts millions of visitors and brings a wealth of money into the country.
In the shadow of the football-soccer festival, powerful cartels like the Jalisco New Generation Cartel are lurking, hoping to profit from this event. They, too, are involved in the business world – whether through money laundering in the restaurants and hotels, drug trafficking or participation in projects run through front men. And it's also about who holds the power in the country.
                      ….

FIFA also only wants to profit; that's where the cartels have the same character.
Seriously, the cartels are also interested in peaceful events, so they can make good money.
They'll probably keep quiet by then.
