Orson insists there’s a great deal of strategy and intelligence involved but maybe one needs to be well versed In the nuances of the sport to appreciate the strategy.

That’s probably why you like it. You understand the intricacies of the sport. Someone uninitiated can’t grasp those. It’s like looking at a work of abstract art by Picasso and thinking, that looks like complete ****. You don’t grasp the subtleties of the piece enough to appreciate the whole of its brilliance.

Yes, extremely so. British plebs need their bread and circus though. Keeps 'em in line.
There's about as much "strategy" in soccer as there is in a game of ping-pong.

It’s not exactly what I’d call an exciting sport to watch nor is it really even close to the most intelligent sport to play. Football (American football) requires the most intelligence to play. So many different kinds of plays that offenses need to memorize, different routes, blocking schemes, run/pass options, where the pass rush is coming from, who are the spies, if the defense is blitzing, etc.
But yeah, soccer can be a fun watch. Just as long as there are no goddamn draws. Fuck that ****, yo.

Of strategizing goes into which players you put out and where, there are probably lots of tactical schemes employed but at the end of the day, it’s so fast paced and disorganIzed relative to US football. I’d agree with the caveat being I simply don’t know much about soccer.
