None in the town of where I received the ticket, and two prior speeding tickets in my home city. They probably stuck it to me because I don't live there.

        What city?
In California, you're allowed 3 tickets in one year. Your fourth ticket is a six month suspension of your license.
The fines have nothing to do with how many you have - unless it's major stuff like DUIs or wreckless driving.
Cities for the most part are raising fines. The better the city, the bigger the fine. I ran a red light (yellow turned red before I crossed the line) in Beverly Hills a few years back and the ticket was like 398.
In Cal I don't think there are a lot of cheap tickets anymore. 4 years ago, I did get 4 tickets in one year, it was just one of those things, I went to traffic school for one so I didn't lose my license but the three I got were expensive (running a stop sign, 3 for speeding). But it the hike in insurance that makes me drive like an old lady now.

What does that mean, "driving left of center"? Driving on the oncoming traffic lane?
I got a speeding ticket recently while driving a rental car. The rental car company is charging me $40. I still haven't been able to find out how much the actual ticket is going to cost me. Apparently I was going at 70 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.

Driving in the left lane, the passing lane I guess.

You can get a ticket for that?

Post the ticket so we can all see that you were totally in the wrong and are obviously spinning the story to play victim.

Driving left of center means you were crossing over middle into oncoming traffic, so sounds like it's really 2 tickets , one for speeding one for reckless driving.

Considered two separate violations. How much over the speed limit? Is the speed they wrote down accurate?

My last speeding ticket ( 91 in a 60 on a clear dry day ) cost me a $300 fine, plus $150 for a lawyer ( to get the points removed )

I don't know what driving left of centre is; if half the fine is for speeding, unless you were doing 180kmh, that's excessive.
Having said that, if an American drives like a typical American in my home state of Victoria they'll be going home with thousands of dollars in fines. Most of the time you won't even know you've been hit.

Googling suggests "left of center" is just another way of saying "wrong side of the road". Probably it indicates it was a road without a double yellow line.

A normal speeding ticket (11-12 over) averages $160. A reckless driving ticket can be $500-$2500 and time in jail for 2nd/3rd offenses.
                                        Hell, parking tickets are $75.
Sounds like reckless driving for crossing the yellow line since he had an attorney go with him.

Maybe in your state, but in California, it's much higher. States have different fines. You should preface your post with "in my state (name of state), the fines are"
