It'll be the Yanks who do it and it will go down as the dumbest move in the history of free agents. The best player ever at a full level of play for ten years wouldn't be worth this money. This guy's a .279 career hitter. Very good player. Not remotely worth this contract.
His first two years he probably rakes, gets hurt the third, comes back with a crappy season the fourth, is getting booed so bad he wants out, has an average season the 5th, hurt the sixth, yanks eat most of the contract and trade him somewhere else where he plays 3 or 4 more years at an average level because of injuries and retires as one of the biggest busts in sports.

Well way too much money, especially considering how injuries can make such deals look ridiculous on the part of owners; but every time I see stories like this that highlight how much money top athletes make today, it is shocking and sickening that society places such a high value on them. This world is really fuc_ed up. Same goes for film actors and musicians. I understand entertainers generate oodles of cash, but for Christ sake, this is disgusting.

If you were one of only 800 people who could do a particular job that was in high demand, you'd command such a salary as well.

I understand that, but IMO the value it gives society is nowhere near commensurate with the pay it garners.

I don't know. How many millions of people felt elated for several days (and some continue to feel the elation) after the Cubs won, compared to how people feel after paying a plumber $500 to fix a clogged sink?
And, I'm not slamming plumbers/laborers at all. I value their work.

You would also command a big pay raise if you could get 35,000 - 50,000 people to pay $40 to watch you work.
              Your future's all used up.

                $40? lol.
I live in New York, so I know we're used to paying more, but where the hell can you get an average ticket for $40? A beer costs at least $12 at Yankee Stadium, parking costs almost $30

FYI, currently on StubHub there's $15 tickets (after fees) for several regular season games at Yankee Stadium, including the entire 3 day series against the Blue Jays 5/1/2017 - 5/3/2017. Snatch those bad boys up now.

This is not news. I want 400 million over 10 years as well. Preferably delivered weekly in $770,000 cash increments by a nude Emmy Rossum along with a fine Opium Pipe and a Glenlivet 25. It's not gonna happen but I'd like it too. Like Bryce and John Lennon, I too am a dreamer. But my thing has as much of a chance of happening as Bryce getting 400 million and all the people living life in peace.
I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
