A toaster oven isn't the same thing. Why in the world would you do that to her?

My mom’s toaster was broken so I bought her a beautiful new toaster oven that is simple to use. Instead of using it this morning, she microwaved her bagel hoping it would get crisp. She won’t have anything to do with the new toaster oven even if it means eating hot untoasted bread from the microwave. I lose patience with her annoying habits.
Why it's so important to you how your mother eats her toast?
Maybe she prefers it untoasted because she doesn't have teeth anymore.

Because she complained that the old toaster was broken. So I assumed any normal sane adult would just use the new one. She eats toasted bread daily.
Why do encourage her dysfunction ?

Capgras syndrome (CS), also known as imposter syndrome or delusion of doubles, is a rare psychiatric disorder where a person believes a loved one or someone they know has been replaced by an identical imposter.

Not that it applies to your mother's situation…but the inability to learn new tasks is a significant indicator for age related cognitive issues. Be patient with her…she luvs you more than you kno

I know. I try and be as patient as possible but I do get annoyed. I also bought her a new lamp because she would drag her old lamp back and forth from her bedroom to the living room every night. Then she doesn’t want to use the new lamp and watches TV in the dark. I don’t get it.

It sounds like you do a good job truthfully.
And frustration is built right in with these things…your venting is healthy. It would seem your mother did a fine job raising you and if you are in a care taker position with her…I think she is fortunate.
