It's going to be a weird one but I'm subscribed. I'm going to try and float between these two boards for the next two weeks; I don't quite want to say goodbye here yet but it'd probably be best to post most content over there to get it up and running.

We should win stuff by posting.

To reiterate something from the other thread, I think a subreddit is the way to go, but can we think of a more inviting name/topic/purpose than /r/imdbvg? That is quite clearly a transplant board, and only of interest to regulars from this forum.
How about we try to figure out a video game related (or at least semi-related) niche that can be filled by our new subreddit? Something that might bring in a few newbies and lurkers, but still be cozy enough to call home?
I'm not a reddit expert but I know there are already gaming subreddits like:
/r/gaming
This is super high traffic, filled with memes and images and stuff, basically where FiB gets 90% of his content from already.
/r/games
This is a lower traffic sub with more substantive discussions and no memes.
Plus various genre-specific ones like
/r/jrpg
or
/r/metroidvania
, or ones about specific series/games like
/r/finalfantasy
or whatever.
So I think there's probably a niche to carve out amongst the subreddits already there? Maybe we can find it. -

All aboard fcking Noah's gay ark lol. Why are you guys so desperately trying to keep this going? The only reason this board is what it is, is because over years (a decade, since I've been here) people happened to come here and start posting and it just organically developed over time. IMDb itself was central to all of that happening, and so to try and force the creation of a new board or sub-reddit or w/e like it is p. futile.
We've seen it done a hundred times in the past and it never works out, it just dies after the few core regs lose interest and no one else bothers to come along. IMDb has traffic from millions and millions of people, and not that reddit doesn't, but, you're already appealing primarily to past IMDb members even with the subreddit title itself. So you won't have new people naturally drawn like they were here and you also won't be able to appeal to the sentimentality of enough people for it to work out.
But anyway it's not like I can stop you. Here's what I'm gonna do though, I'm gonna spend the next two weeks trolololololling and talking about video games or whatever, then the board is going to shut down and that's the end of it. Sometimes you have to learn to let go m8s. -

Boy, you're really invested in convincing people it won't work. And that you won't be joining. Just accept that you won't be able to resist.
