I do not facebook, tweet nor will I allow myself to be data-mined by those companies. I do not get out much because of my handicap and this was my only place to forge connections over movies and shows I love. You're killing it because you're cowards. You bunch can't handle free thought and open discussion so you've decided to nuke this place we all share. You've gone old testament God, flooding earth while only those on the ark of facebook or twitter will be saved. Stupid decision and why? All because you cannot handle opinions or thoughts that hurt your feelings? Get over yourselves! Victimhood is the soil from which the tree of fascism grows. Silencing speech is fascism and you and those who decided to do this are the real Hitlers of the internet. Heil cowards!

The IMDB statement is too fishy to be believed. I think there's more to this than trolls got out of hand so we're shutting it down.

Facebook is also not a good discussion platform for separate topics or movies - thousands of movies with their own discussion thread are simply not possible on Facebook. So basically this isn't about "move to Facebook" this is about closing down discussion full stop.
Which is sad given the history of the boards here.
They call them "social media coordinators" - the staff that most organizations have these days. They don't understand forums because they live on Facebook, that's all they know. The push to close website comments, forums and message boards, comes mostly from these overpaid social media "experts" who think the whole world needs to move to Facebook.
It's sad, it's pathetic, but IMDB is run by regular people, many of whom are probably new. They look at the forums with pained expressions on their faces because they don't actually use them. they're on Facebook all day. Brainwashed by Likes and fake friends. They genuinely believe that shutting down their own active boards and pissing off thousands of users is a good move. -

I take care of my elderly parents, so I spend a good bit of time watching movies.

I too am disabled and unable to get out and interact with people often, let alone socialize enough to find like-minded people who share my taste in entertainment. This is why I too am hurt that these message boards will be gone, and I too am suspicious of IMDB's carefully written yet glaringly vague explanation.

Since IMDb doesn't care anymore about what their users will do when this sites goes offline, several imdbers and me used our talents and created a discussion forum where all can join and participate, just like it was here.
We are open to all suggestions and everyone is invited !

This is a real alternative for those who do not like to interact in facebook and want a real forum instead (like it was all along)
PD: It seems imdb is deleting messages about this on social media, they really don't want people to go anywhere after they close.

I've been feeling pretty bummed over IMDB closing the boards but I imagine it's worst for you. It just goes to show how unbelievably life changing for the worse the closing of these boards will be.
