Really kind of glad the boards are leaving, but do have some concerns

Yes, I have used these boards over the years myself, but you have to admit that there are a lot of trolls who use this site and the administrators have had to spend too much time dealing with them, which is probably why they are taking the message boards down in the first place. Maybe if IMDb had placed an age limit to use this site it wouldn't have been so bad. The majority of the trolls on here are teenagers with nothing better to do with their time. I have been irked by many trolls on here myself. I just worry where the trolls will go next. The parents won't supervise them like they should so they have free use of the internet. They will probably be all over Facebook like never before, but luckily they can be ignored better there. You can just completely tune them out on Facebook like they don't even exist on Facebookunlike here where you will still see that they are around through "post ignored" posts and they can still see your posts completely. I think this is kind of luke warm thing the message boards are leaving.

The ability to review others' opinions was a big part of what makes this site work. I'd come here when I had questions about something that happened, there was usually a posting about the subject almost immediately after the showing. The boards were a living entity of the feature, constantly changing in the case of popular boards. Removing them means we just have an archive of statistics, trivia, and opinions rather than something that changed based on your questions and knowledge.
I think they're the heart and sole of the site, their loss may have stronger repercussions than they realize. I still might look up a rating before I rent or see it in theaters, but will have no reason to come back after that which was mostly how I used them. -

Take it from a trolling master, that's not even remotely true; and is certain not buttressable by statistical facts.
For one thing, "adults" (
i.e.
, those 18+) are not the adults of a couple of decades ago rather, they're cosseted, sensitive, "Generation Porcelain" people that think copy-pasting garbage on the Internet, using their one, shared, malfunctioning brain-cell, is "kool" and "edgy". Just because one may have a family or is married, does not constitute adulthood (
NB:
The frontal cortex develops fully at ~25 years the scientific / neurological measure for 'adulthood' where as "legal age" is an arbitrary number assigned to person's maturity predicated on culture and mores which differ from country to county).
That is to say, much of the half-witted drivel you read here not to mention, the myriad 1's and 10's that skew the IMDb rating system to near uselessness comes from legal
adults
; not "kids". Anecdotally, in the past, I've met many gamers while online who are in their 50's and who act like literal, autistic teenagers. So, if that's even remotely a measure of who avail the film medium as the form of entertainment, it's safe to assume that many here are "adults", too. -

Getting rid of the main forums is one thing, getting rid of the forums to talk about actresses and actors is just so freaking stupid.

Since IMDb doesn't care anymore about what their users will do when this sites goes offline, several imdbers and me used our talents and created a discussion forum where all can join and participate, just like it was here.

PD: It seems imdb is deleting messages about this on social media, they really don't want people to go anywhere after they close.

The problems wasn't the trolls, it was the morons who replied to them. If you ignore the trolls, then a big portion of the battle is won. But people are to lame to comprehend.

I'm going to miss these message boards.
Might not be as good as these boards here but the more people that register at these sites the better they will get. Hopefully most of the people that likes IMDB boards will join these sites.
