Bloodborne Might Be My Favourite Game This Gen

I've been interested in it for a while but am hesitant to take the plunge for some reason. I've been like this for all of the Souls games; in the end never got 'round to any of them. I'm in a dark fantasy mood currently as well.
I can't think of a better video game world to explore on 8th gen hardware.
I think I remember you saying that you never tried The Witcher 3, or at least gave up after a little while. I'm sure that game is required playing just as much as Bloodborne is.

The Witcher 3 is a good game but Bloodborne had far better mechanics and world design.
You should definitely get it. There is an initial hurdle where the difficultly may seem overwhelming but once you get into its groove, it becomes one of the most satisfying games I've ever played. Dark Souls 3 is brilliant as well. -

They're both pretty big games. Bloodborne took me thirty hours and I'm yet to finish DS3 (though I'm so close) with 60 hours (I'd wager half of that has been playing with friends though). The challenge is wrongly seen as the highlight of the series; I think it's the level design and world building.

I love being able to see pretty much all of the explorable world in DS3 from the castle. The mechanics aren't as strong though and the world design is a little basic by comparison. Also Bloodborne just has more of a survival horror vibe and far more interesting monsters.

Pretty Much. Also really enjoyed the progression of the night as you play through Bloodborne and the insight idea which lets you see places you've explored in a different light. DS3's world felt more static.

I'd say I enjoyed Dark Souls 3 more but Bloodborne is close in quality. It is time I get around to playing the other games in the series and I hope I won't be bored during Demon Souls this time. That game seemed lifeless.

Don't get me wrong, DS3 is a wonderful game and in my top 5 of the generation but I think it had too many humanoid bosses and clunkier gameplay. As good as it is, I much preferred the horror atmosphere and more interconnected level design found in Bloodborne. DS3 felt a bit too linear at times.
