They're not "ripping off" the logo, they're creating a "similar look and feel". You can't legally copyright "look and feel". Just ask Apple.

Um. You're not a lawyer are you? Infringement or not, being a user has nothing at all to do with the law. You can be right on at the moment IMDb lawyers (if they even care to begin with) look at it and there's nothing they can do to you.
Only the ones who intended to steal code, if it's even copyrighted in the first place!

I don't doubt that. Saying I wasn't going to be anywhere near the copycat message board has nothing to do with fear of being sued or subpoenaed. When these boards close down its users are going to scatter like cockroaches to one of the many copycat message boards, to social media, Reddit, IGN, or their favorite fan sites. With so many options why would I want to be involved in a board that's destined for a C&D from Amazon/IMDB? Why would anybody?

I don't know anything about copyrighting code. However the nearly-identical design can be interpreted by a savvy attorney as infringing on IMDB's trade dress, creating confusion or deceiving consumers into believing that it's somehow endorsed by or otherwise affiliated with IMDB. Even if you don't agree there's nothing stopping IMDB from initiating such an action, and nothing guaranteeing that the copycat sites will survive it. -

They could easily survive it simply by changing the blatant rip off logo and altering the site design/colors. But I do agree, they are indeed blatantly ripping off IMDB for their own gain. -

Good point. I guess it depends on how aggressive IMDB wants to be (they could just send a C&D and be done with it, or they could pursue a legal battle knowing that the other board can't afford it). And that's assuming any of these little sites hit their radar in the first place!

The point of imdb boards is that you can go at any old or foreign movies or even old actors, crew etc and post, the only board like that (for now) is https://www.themoviedb.org with the discuss button next to the movie/actor picture, rotten tomatoes also looks like they might open the boards but i tried to reply at a topic to see if it works and it didn't do anything.

Correct. I have explored all the suggested alternatives and TMDb is the only acceptable alternative. They only recently re-instituted their boards for individual movies/shows/actors so right now the vast majority of their boards are empty. However the potential for migrating the same type of discussions from IMDb clearly exists.
I would urge everyone to go to TMDb and create an account. In the meantime, before it's too late, you should go to your IMDb account profile (move the pointer over your username in the upper right corner), go to the "Your Activity" page, and copy your own favorite message board posts, and be prepared to re-post those messages and/or restart those discussions at TMDb. (While you're at it, also download "Your Ratings" before IMDb comes up with some bright idea to sabotage that feature as well.)

Making content you care about (especially any I.P.) publicly available on social media (including forums like these) is a mistake. For example, FB reserves to the right to use anything you post there. I think it's better to link to your own blog or YT channel if this is allowed. Additionally, if you do end up having a discussion worth archiving you can then migrate it there. -

Which is why I suggested you should consider carefully which content you choose to post online
The exact Terms and Conditions vary between sites but of course, they do exercise some control over your content in exchange for making it available online. The question has always been how much is reasonable. As usual, the devil is in the details.
