There is no substantive DLC.
The gameplay is great when you are not:
a) waiting for the helicopter
b) p!ssing about at Mother Base, wondering why this part is even in the game
c) waiting for the helicopter
d) running to a way point miles away
e) going back through the same checkpoint for the 100th time
f) waiting for the helicopter
g) waiting for a satisfying conclusion to the story
h) waiting for the helicopter99% Complete: [||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| ]

Ground zeroes has the not exactly VR missions, but side ops that are like Substance's Snake tales. Two of them have to be unlocked by finding every XOF patch in the ground zeroes mission.
Ground zeroes has a slightly better story but it concludes Peace Walkr which I'm guessing you also haven't played?
Phantom pain is okay but it's just two open world maps with nothing to do but pilfer resources.Story events just seem to trigger at random and there's no demo theatre or way to rewatch them. It has plenty pf retcons but every new MGS entry seemed to contradict something else already established in the timeline. Although this one seems to create more plotholes and seems like bad fanfiction.
Since you're not as strong on the series you probably won't care about most of this. But from reading various interviews I get the feeling Hideo wanted to sabotage the popularity of the games in english-speaking countries. But I won't go into that here. -

Correctly guessed about Peace Walker. It's weird, this thread has made me realise that this is probably the biggest single player franchise that for no particular reason I seem to have ignored. Did play Metal Gear 1 and 2 on the respective Playstations. Really liked them too so I'm not sure why I didn't get to at least Snake Eater at the time

Honestly speaking I prefer Ground Zeroes to Phantom Pain.
Ground Zeroes is just too epic, too beautiful, it has a different and unique feeling
This part alone is better than anything from Phantom Pain:

Epic song, much better than the Cheesefest version they played in 4.
And playing Policenauts it has the same Doo Doo Doo Dududu from the opening of metal gear solid, but comes with a backing track, it sounds pretty good too. -

The Phantom Pain version is good but not even close to this one. It's a joke in comparison.
I really don't get why Hideo Kojima chose to go into a different path in Phantom Pain.
Ground Zeroes seemed to lead the game to a very different feel, setting and atmosphere.

That is a good track, and I had a lot of fun with the game, some of the exchanges between Metal Gear and Gillian are hilarious.so is getting kicked out of Katrinas house. I do feel like act 3 suffered a little though, just two harder shooting sequences followed by a mcguffin 3rd and then lots of exposition on par with any Metal gear briefing sequence.
I need to get that OST
