    Rise of the Tomb Raider

    • Found the 20th Anniversary Edition for cheap, so bought it. Annoyingly it became even cheaper after I'd bought it. Damn you, lack of clairvoyance! Anyway, game is good so far. A few gripes, though. The in-game hints and prompts are a bit excessive aaaand I'm not a fan of Lara's new face. Don't get the change at all. Doubt any sane person thought the Definitive Edition pancake-face was better than the original 2013. Otherwise, I've been enjoying my time with it. Pleasantly surprised to see this has the free-roam that the 2013 game also had.

    • Happiness personified as a video game? This just oozes charm and personality. Outside of the graphics being timeless, it also makes the characters extremely expressive and even manages to give Link an actual personality and the ability to convey emotionswhich is a first for this series. The world is much more realised than it has been before or since, and I love the sense of scale and exploration that the open-world nature brings. Also, the game reminds me a bit of Little Big Adventure 2 for some reason.
      Overwatch
    • What needs to be said? Fantastic game. Really like the new Halloween event. A lot of great skins.
Oh, and just got a message from the library. Apparently the have Until Dawn waiting for me. Suddenly a bit swarmed by games lately.

      Can those be turned off?
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

Yeah, that's stupid and annoying. Still checking it out in a couple days though.

            Mafia 3

            • enjoyable game with intense game play, great open world and a good story but it feels unfinished, lack depth, the main missions are repetitive and the pc port is terribly mediocre.
              Crysis 3
            • solid shooter with more open and varied levels than Crysis 2. The graphics are unbelievably amazing even to this day, it clearly was ahead of its time.
              Rocket League
              and
              Overwatch
            • regular multiplayer games. Although I'm still not playing competitive on Overwatch

Me too. It's really cool, but I'm mainly playing one more time to find a missing nanosuit upgrade module.

For the love of God I seriously hope you're joking.
Crysis 3 was garbage. Crysis 2 was so much better, it had so much better levels. The level design, the story, the characters in Crysis 3 are all garbage.
                Varied levels? Crysis 3?
And the graphics despite of being good already got destroyed by other games back then.

Got around to beating it the other day. Fun game and it was nice to complete it, but not much in terms of replayability.
                  Hotline Miami
Game is almost perfect. Music, controls, difficultly, fun, bloodshed. Fantastic game.

Damn, I wanted a good co-op game to play on the PS4. Broforce was hailed as one, but you said its lacking replayability.

I'm not a fan of Lara's new face
Just flip her around then. Its easier if you switch to inverted
                              .
                              Anyway
                              Finished
                              Deus Ex Mankind Divided
. I Loved Human Revolution but this was sh-t. Horrible pacing, meaningless Illuminati plotlines and unsubtle apartheid stuff. AI was dumb, game world was sterile. Didn't really feel like a living city. Civilians just hanging around waiting for you to ask them to edgily tell you to f-ck off. I played a no-kills run, which was probably worse than killing everyone (once you get past the sh-tty gunplay), but even then just running through areas was sometimes enough to get through the game. Most of the time, it either felt cheap or like a chore. (6/10). Strangely I actually liked the free mission (Desperate Measures) much more than the main game. Proper stealth, clear mission. Much better. (7.5/10)
                              Finished
                              Spec Ops: The Line
. Took me so long to get to this, and I wish I'd played it earlier. I knew it had something to say about player morals and motivations in videogames and it didn't disappoint. Just wish I'd known nothing about it at all. As well as telling a good story (if derivative), I read there was a "control-scheme" moment, where the controls were set up against you in the game (in a similar way to how "Brothers a tale of two sons" threw its control scheme back at you and made it part of the challenge), but I never caught that. Where was it? Did I just make that up? (9/10)
                              That Dragon, Cancer
. Jeez. What motivated me to "play" this? I don't know. Unrecommendable as a game and an experience. It totally worked on me though. Very sad, very hard to play but I am glad I played it and that it even exists. (??/10)
                              Currently about a halfway through
                              Ori and the Blind Forest
. I hadn't really read anything about this one, so I (like a lot of others, I'd imagine) was expecting a 4 hour walk in the park, looking at all the pretty pictures. Not really what I was expecting. Still, I am currently loving it, even though it can get occasionally frustrating and my thumb hurts from all the jumping. It's been a while since I played a platformer (or a metroidvania, at that). In fact it has been so long, that it weirdly unlocked two buried memories in my gaming history: a game called Flimbo's quest for Spectrum and Creatures 2 for C64. It's just the way the map and the enemies look, I think. (8/10 so far)
                              Rise of the Tomb Raider
up next I reckon although, I am tempted to play through
                              Republique
                              first. Anyone played that?

I'm not so sure about a control scheme moment but I thought Spec Ops did a wonderful job of making you do things you didn't actually have to do. For instance
you don't have to shoot either hanging prisoner, you can just as easily shoot at the soldiers, you also don't have to shoot the civilians that surround you later on in the game.
There are more examples that I can't recall at the moment but I remember i just did whatever was told of me, horrible things in the game just because thats how I thought you have to act to progress I guess that's what the game is about. Kinda like BioShock but with hidden choice that makes it more impactful.

Yeah, I did the same (
except I didn't shoot either of the two prisoners
). I must've misread something in the past that mentioned a control scheme quirk, but never mind - it was a great game with a pretty damn decent story.

Return to Lordran goes on until the 25th.
Looking forward to the Return to Nexus event. I've never actually played Demon's Souls with or against other players outside of maybe the Old Monk boss fight.

It's an odd one; the moral system is more in depth and has some more impactful effects on the game and the gameplay itself is vastly improved allowing you to use plasmids and weapons together in what is easily a more satisfying experience. The original has some of the clunkiest gameplay ever and this one is a lot easier to pick up and play. It's still somehow a lesser game. The atmosphere is lacking (especially the sound effects), the level design matches only the weaker third act areas of the first game and the story feels like a footnote. Essentially the game feels like enjoyable hefty dlc. Minerva's Den is better.

                                          • There's a fantastic mode in this game that allows you to use powers like tornadoes, suction cups and boxing gloves to knock enemies out of the way and score. I had no idea that it existed but I've been playing it of a night with friends for the past few days and I'm having a blast.
