It sounds like he might not like either game, haha.

I would say Mafia 3, if only for the setting, I would be very surprised if 2K give the setting the respect it needs. From what I've read (as I haven't played it yet) Rise is more of the same, so if you liked the last game (I didn't either!) go for it.

I have both and I say get Rise of the Tomb Raider, especially if you like the Uncharted games. It has more intuitive gameplay, much better graphics than Mafia 3, has all the DLC included. Oh and this time it has 9 separate tombs for you to raid! With puzzles of moderate difficulty of their own.
But if you love GTA then get Mafia 3 cause it's in the same vain, with more stealth.

I don't know that ROTTR is "lighter", it's just less overdramatic yet Lara seems less whiny weak chicken, and more jaded/unenthused. Much better tombs (in numbers and design - in the right direction, but still pretty TR-lite). Still a fair amount of combat, but you have a lot more combat options (like stealth killing, and being able to get through some sections without killing at all), more weapons for variety really make it seem less mundane. Some animals enemies are a nice touch.
Lots of fan service, rather than gamer service. The map, though, while it has some really nice areas (the Syria section is really brief, but it's the best part of the game, excellent on it's own), is incredibly boring. Way too much metal, snow, and filler collectibles. Much better enemy variety, the writing is better (the story premise is not), the characters are less intrusive and aren't annoying tropes. I greatly disliked TReboot, and ROTTR was entertaining as is, though it's still not honoring the moniker entirely.
The world of heterosexual is a sick and boring life!

Oh man, if you could combine Uncharted 4's writing/level design with Rise of The Tomb Raider's exploration you would have one classic game. I'm quite fond of Rise of The Tomb Raider but compared to the excellent writing in Uncharted 4, the writing in this game is good at best. There isn't really a memorable character outside of Lara and her family. Maybe Jacob holds some promise but the others at the moment are pretty forgettable. Time will tell if the others get more development. Everything else about the game is pretty good. Level design is a highlight for sure but Uncharted 4 had locations that stood out more.

So Uncharted 4 is not a classic game?

What I meant is that combining the better parts of those two games would be the definitive Adventure game experience. Both games are great by themselves though.

Yes I understood it. But the way you worded it seemed more like a disdain of some sort towards Uncharted 4.
I understand your point despite of not agreeing with you that much. I mean, in my opinion Uncharted games exploration alone is superior to Tomb Raider's games.

I'll say Mafia 3 if you enjoyed the 2nd one, but Rise of the Tomb Raider is winning the metacritic war for whatever that's worth.
I'm getting both eventually, but Mafia 3 will be first in spite of the mediocre ratings.

Mafia 3 has some of the best dialogue, voice acting and story of any game I've played. The setting and locations are interesting and makes the game feel fresh.
But then there are bugs, glitches and crashes
Haven't tried out Tomb Raider, so I can't comment.

Can't really go wrong with Tomb Raider.
