I've got a long list of horrors I love, and I prefer psychological scares, but honestly, I think The Thing has got the lot.

Yes, the haunting is more disturbing than outright horror.
The movie that disturbs me the most, and it's not a horror, is The Tenant by Roman Polanski. It took me a week to shake it after the first time I saw it. -

I find life tragedies far more frightening than ghosts and ghouls.

At the time it came out, it disturbed me. These days? I agree. Maybe because it's been around so long, and it has been parodied to death.
