Oh wow, I didn't expect anybody outside of the US would even be aware of him
He's one of my very favorite songwriters and his song "Copperhead Road" actually partially inspired one of the characters in my work in progress.

Thank you

️ Loving the first two (artists I wasn't aware of) and will listen to the rest as I get some work done.
Here are a few artists I happen to share a birthday with… not a bad list, actually.
(Nile Rodgers and Jarvis Cocker for the last two.)
And here's a guy who died way too young exactly 17 years before I was born, with the first recorded version of a song he may have helped to write.
Thanks again for the birthday wishes and the great songs!

Omfg….you probably won't believe this, but I originally had a Chic song lined up for your birthday (because we talked about disco this week), but decided last minute to introduce you instead to a few artists you may never have heard of.

Oooh. Particularly glad you like Tonbruket. Swedish band. Seen them live, they're really good.
In fact, I should have posted something from the album they did with Swedish country type artist Christian Kjellvander called Doom Country. I think you'd like it. Tonbruket is an instrumental band, classified as Swedish jazz but they're not exactly straightforward jazz. -

Nice! The Doom Country track actually reminds me (just slightly) of a guy I used to know who recorded under the name Slackeye Slim. He generally played on bills with country bands, but only because there doesn't seem to be much of a market around here for Nick Cave meets Ennio Morricone

Another one for you. Also Swedish jazz. Sad story though. Esbjörn Svensson, the pianist in this trio drowned, so that band is no more. The bassist went on to form Tonbruket. So while they share a bassist, they don't sound alike.

Omg, instant love. 🥰 I can hear why E.S.T made you think of this.
Norway has a couple of incredible jazz artists. My favourite is Nils Petter Molvær. Trumpeter.
This is from a live album.
Another live performance
And this one has female vocals. -

He's great! I used to play saxophone. Well, I still have it but haven't picked it up in a while. I was never great at it anyway, but I'm sure you're already familiar with most of the American artists who inspired the instrument choice: Sonny Rollins, Pharoah Sanders, John Coltrane, John Zorn, Albert Ayler, Stan Getz (especially him!), Charlie Parker… plus King Curtis and Clarence Clemons
