Omg, instant love. π₯° I can hear why E.S.T made you think of this.
Norway has a couple of incredible jazz artists. My favourite is Nils Petter Molvær. Trumpeter.
This is from a live album.
Another live performance
And this one has female vocals. -

He's great! I used to play saxophone. Well, I still have it but haven't picked it up in a while. I was never great at it anyway, but I'm sure you're already familiar with most of the American artists who inspired the instrument choice: Sonny Rollins, Pharoah Sanders, John Coltrane, John Zorn, Albert Ayler, Stan Getz (especially him!), Charlie Parker⦠plus King Curtis and Clarence Clemons

Dave Van Ronk. It's a weird story, but I actually discovered him through a crime novel I read years ago. It was named after a line in this song and the main character discovers the song at one point in the book.
And a few other good ones from him;
Oh, and if you're curious it's this novel:
Two of the others in the series have been made into movies. Eight Million Ways to Die and A Walk Among the Tombstones.

Good song. I think this may be the version that was featured on Hell on Wheels. Emmylou Harris also recorded it, but I think I like this one better.
