I just saw this film for the first time since I was about 8. It was even better than when I was a kid because I can understand it now that I'm older. The characters were amazing and well developed. Sam Elliot nailed the portrayal of his character, Gar. Very well done. However, my favorite character was Dozer. He was like a big brother to Rocky. Granted, the character didn't say much, but he didn't have to. His actions did most of the talking. Yea, he was in a violent gang, but he stood up for Rocky when those dweebs made fun of him on his first day in Jr. High and he left that puppy for Rocky in his room even after his mom said no. The dude is suppose to be intimidating at first glance, but he had a lot of heart. I love characters like this.

You would love Lenny from Of Mice and Men.

I'm not sure which version you were referring to. I tried watching the '92 film, but I stopped after 10 minutes because I felt that Malkovich went "full retard".

That is why when Dozer tried to tell Rocky how proud he was of him, was a very touching scene.
