Attitude.
That's it.
This movie has serious attitude.
It's a low-budget film that does what it sets out to do. It transports the audience to another place, keeps moving, and presents a variety of interesting characters.
If I had to choose between a glossy high-budget film that had no soul and made me feel nothing at all and a low-budget film that was rough around the edges yet made me believe in the characters and the world they inhabit, I'd go for the cheap-o film any day. And there are lots of examples out there: Taxi Driver, Phantasm II, Dark Star, Buckaroo Banzai, Time Bandits, Jacob's Ladder, Liquid Sky, Wizards, Class of 1984, The Warriors, -

Please can I get some feedback as to what people enjoyed about escape from NY.
Sure! I'm happy to take time out of my day to explain to some random beep why I like a movie that I like, even though that person is a random beep that I don't care about in even the most basic of ways.
BUT if I'm going to expend that time explaining something to you that isn't your business and that you aren't actually interested in, you're gonna have to take time out of your day to give me a rim job.
WORDS MEAN THINGS! Also, before you come to bitch about a plot hole, rewatch the show/movie. -

I've always found it to be a little overrated as well. There's something dry, monotonous and joyless about it. Feels less ambitious and/or creative than some of John Carpenter's other movies. Still a good movie, but not the classic many consider it to be.

I feel the same way. I find it to be one of Carpenter's weakest films. It's downright boring at times and ends up leaving me feeling disappointed despite it having an awesome cast. Escape From L.A. is much better in my opinion.

Well I did not particularly like it. Not my favorite of Genres and the production value was just so cheesy, could not help thinking of all those disaster movies like towering inferno.

The plots a great premises a testosterone driven anti-hero that's has to overcome insurmountable odds in a dystopian future where he has to beat "the man" at his own game and not take any crap along the way. All the characters are awesome Snake, Hauk, The Duke, Brain, the sleazy President, the Dukes evil little helper They're were all played by good actors that nailed their roles. The dialog is simple, straight forward and without any goofy 80's cliche. Even though the soundtrack is dated with the heavy synthesizers it still works to build drama. I saw this in the theater when I was 18 and the crowd loved it and literally applauded at the end of the movie. Maybe it's a generational thing The difference between kids that grew up on mini-bikes and playing rough outdoors and kids that grew up playing video games inside all day.

I absolutely love how dark and bleak this film is. Moreover, the hellish world of the New York City prison is quite vividly realized on a modest budget. And Snake Plissken is a great ****in' bad-ass anti-hero!
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
