The film Carnal Knowledge, directed by Mike Nichols and starring Jack Nicholson and Art Garfunkel, was released in theaters in 1971, with its U.S. premiere on June 30th of that year. It was a significant and controversial film for its time, exploring male sexual attitudes over several decades.
    Carnal Knowledge (1971)
provides Jack Nicholson the perfect platform to display his exceptional range in dramatic acting.
I had no idea the extent of his range. I've been his fan since I saw him play The Joker in Tim Burton's Batman. I know I know, Nicholson has been famous since Easy Rider. However, Easy Rider was before my time back whenever I saw Batman
So anyway, I've been impressed. I'm more than familiar with Nicholson playing super villains and essentric men. I know him playing comedy like As Good as it Gets, and Terms of Endearment.
But this Carnal Knowledge almost shows Jacks entire range and it is hypnotic to say the least
All this is to the credit of Mike Nichols, writer and director
The long camera shots of just Jack's monologues is something I'm unsure I have ever seen a director do before and since.
