I agree with the previous poster. Unfortunately most people, including on this thread dont realize that the age can be only a number that doesnt have to reflect the reality. For examle, would you say that Brad Pitt is nearly 50 years old now? in fact he looks like most people look in the early 30s. What im saying that many people develop differently physically as well as mentally.

      Actually, yes i would
His age is starting to show (especially around the eyes) but the change is taking place at a normal rate
What makes Ormonds ageing so striking is the fact that it appears to have happened overnight - everyone ages but usually it takess place over decades whereas Julia's face seems to have changed dramatically very quickly - thats why i mentioned keith richards earlier because he's the only other person i can think of who also experienced such a quick change of facial features - to be honest i don't regard it as a question of ageing but rather a question of genetics
the change cannot be called ageing because she isn't actually that old so it's either drug use b68(like richards) or genetics or something else

It's scientifically provable that NO ONE is aging at the same rate!!! Just like no one has the menopause at the very same time/age or puberty starts at every one at the same age. It's provable that molecularly everyone ages differently. One 50 year old man can be physically and mentally 30 year old.
I'm curious to know by which picture you're judging Brad Pitt's age, because recently he's been preparing for his roles where he played older men. Watch him in Burn After Reading, sorry that guy doesn't look to me as a 50 year old man. Or the scenes in Benjamin Button where he is spending time at the sea with Blanchett's character. He may shows signs of stress, but not signs of age, yet.

I think some of this can be reversed through stopping smoking, moisturizing, and de-stressing. Also, wrinkles are often the sign of b-vitamin deficiency. So, I don't think she needs to do plastic surgery, botox, etc.
Anyway, a good actress is a good actress. Look at Helen Mirren. She is 62, and wrinkled, and considered a great beauty. Hollywood is changing, slowly, but surely. Part of the reason is that there are wonderfully talented British actresses NOT having work done. More power to you, Ms. Ormond, you are talented AND beautiful. Please don't have any work done!

She looks so OLD!!! I have got to find out what happened. My husband is convinced she has a disease!

The original poster's question is valid. I haven't seen Julia Ormond in a long time and was quite shocked with how much she aged as well. Honestly, she looks older than her age and I am not talking Hollywood-standard either. She looks older than 45 year old non-celebrities. She just has more lines on her face than other women, that's all. I still think she's beautiful and every time I watch her old movies I still get blown away by her performance. She's a naturally talented actressvery, very talented.

It is obvious that Julia is ageing. As we all are. Some of us age visibly earlier than others - that's just the human bell curve, like some of us can run faster than others.
If Julia is a heavy smoker, as some claim, she may have done her skin a disservice. Still, when you look at these recent photo's, I still think her beauty is radiant and Julia is still a very attractive woman. Just no longer the twenty-something young star that she once was. But that is to be expected for any woman.
I think Julia can play interesting roles in movies and on stage for all of her life. Because her acting talent does not age, or only ages like good wines ripe.
                      See:

And BTW you can change the last three numbers into anything between 492 and 512 and view the rest of these beautiful series.

Wow, let's cut all the BS, people.
It's painfully obvious that she has not only done a lot of smoking, but drinking as well, over the years. While it could be other substances as well, alcohol is definitely Suspect Numero Uno take it from someone who's been to plenty of AA meetings. The tissues of the body break down for specific reasons (free radicals, oxidation, etc.) if you have no clue what those reasons are, please don't just post your own non-medical, simpleton's understanding of the aging process. And why has everyone assumed that she hasn't already had some botox or other "light work" done? There's only so much that can do.
The biggest, most annoying crock I keep reading on this topic is "she's still just as beautiful" FACE IT: The Old Grey Mare just ain't what she used to be. I don't enjoy having to put things that bluntly, or cruelly; but all the posters blowing hot air up everyone's collective butt are forcing my hand. Someone has to do a reality check around here.
BTW, take a closer look First Knight. The second thing I noticed about Julia was that she had the beginnings of some lines about her cheeks that seemed premature for a woman who was only ~28 at the time of the filming. The first thing I noticed was that she was gorgeous in spite of that. What a pity
Instead of sugar-coating everything in a feeble attempt to spare Julia's feelings, let's take something positive from this. To All The Younger Ladies Out There: TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN! It will return the favor.

Why should she care what anyone on this message board thinks of her? Maybe she had a damn good time smoking, drinking, and doing whatever else she was doing. As long as she's enjoying her life is all that matters. We all have bad habits.
