I know, me too.
There is something quite scary about being alone in a relatively strange house anyway. Sometimes I never even met the children they were asleep before I got there. One used to wake up and say "mummy lets me wee in the sink"
I believed him of course.
I never ever let anyone but a close relative babysit my children! As an adult it feels beyond strange to allow a teenager to look after your children.

I never minded never meeting the children until one night when the little girl woke up crying. She was even more terrified to see a girl she never even met before.
I felt so sorry for her. I tried to reassure her that her mom was going to come home. I had the devil of a time trying to calm her down. That stayed with me. When I became a mother, I never let anyone watch our son unless we all were well aquatinted. Like you, I usually left mine with a relative.
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Yes, you put yourself into the shoes of the child waking up and finding parents gone and a stranger in the house and it's easy to see why that would be terrifying.
Sometimes the parents would be gone until 1am and then there was the terrifying car journey home with the dad who'd had too much to drink.
Not sure if was worth the money really!

Oh yes. The car rides home. I had almost forgotten about that part of it. So uncomfortable, and often scary. Can you believe you survived your teens? Sometimes, like now, I wonder how I even made it out alive!

Still gives me the chills.
You got that right. This line…terrifying. And then a few years went by she got a call at a restaurant and heard that voice again.

I never saw When a Stranger Calls Back. It's available here though. I just watched it. I know what you mean!

They must have taken it down. I watched it on there scrolling though the time line to see the ending again. His performance at the club was also very unnerving.
