Two Dutch Teenage Brothers found dead in Istanbul, Father hospitalized
Two Dutch brothers, aged 15 and 17, have died while on vacation in Istanbul, Turkish authorities confirmed. Their father, who was with them at the time, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague is providing consular assistance and is in contact with the family and local officials. Turkish media reports indicate the brothers were found dead in a hotel room where they were staying with their father. The night before, the teens reportedly ate at a restaurant in Taksim, a popular entertainment district. Their father did not dine there, according to the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
Hotel staff discovered the bodies the following morning after hearing what was described as unusual noises from the room. Emergency medical responders were unable to save the brothers. Their father was found in shock and was immediately taken to the hospital.
Authorities are investigating the cause of death, with food poisoning considered a possible factor.
No signs of violence were reported.

I guess it was again methanol alcohol poisoning.
In many countries where alcohol is frowned upon or even banned, you can usually still buy liquor.
DO NOT DRINK LIQUOR IN THOSE COUNTRIES!!!
It's often laced with methanol or it's moonshine.
During moonshine distillation unintentionally but easily can be produced methyl/methanol alcohol.
Drink beer or wine, but no harder beverage.
And if someone drank it although and got problems:
Make that person drink

liquor afterwards, if available.
Asap and much of it! Sometimes the only chance to survive.
I'm very sorry for the brothers and their father.
They were of Turkish origin, now Netherland nationals.
That doesn't change anything. They were too young to die. -

Restaurant Staff arrested after Teenagers found dead in Istanbul
Four people were arrested in Turkey in connection with the deaths
of two Dutch teenage brothers who fell ill after an evening out in Istanbul.
The brothers went out to eat in the Taksim Square area.
The brothers, aged 15 and 17, were found dead on August 21 in their hotel room, where they stayed with their father. Hotel staff found their bodies when they went into the room after the family failed to check out. The father was taken to hospital in a critical condition suffering from shock, but has since stabilised.
According to Turkish media, the father said his sons had food and drink at two different restaurants in the area of Taksim Square, but it's still not clear if they suffered food poisoning. There were no indications they were attacked.
On Monday, the owners and two staff at the restaurants reportedly were arrested.
Food and drink samples from both establishments were sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis.

Whether it was food or drink, the restaurants certainly didn't do it intentionally.
And I doubt it came from the restaurants. Otherwise, there would certainly be more dead guests.
Or they already know more than stated in this article. -

This is a different case, but it happened in Istanbul…err…Constantinople again.
The likely cause of death really surprised me.
Family died on vacation in Turkey
Not Food Poisoning after all
First a mother and two children died, then days later the father.
Now there are clear indications of what likely triggered their deaths.
Taksim Hospital in Istanbul, where the tourists were treated for symptoms of poisoning.
For a long time, the cause of death remained a mystery after the death of a family of four from Hamburg while on vacation in Turkey. Now, the newspaper Cumhuriyet and the broadcaster CNN Türk are both quoting the forensic report.
"It is assumed that they primarily died from chemical poisoning caused by the environment in the hotel where they were staying."
This apparently rules out food poisoning.
But the investigations are not yet complete.
As CNN Türk reports, the family stayed directly above a room that was recently disinfected with pesticides.
Turkey Drama with numerous Arrests
Investigators officially assumed the family suffered from food poisoning. They ate at various street food vendors, including mussels. Several vendors were arrested, and authorities sealed off one food stall.
Since the weekend, the Istanbul hotel where the family stayed, increasingly became the focus of the investigation. Two other hotel guests complained of poisoning symptoms and were hospitalized. It subsequently emerged that chemicals were used for disinfection shortly before – to combat bedbugs.

The hotel in Istanbul was subsequently evacuated, and authorities took samples from duvets and pillows.
A hotel manager and several people tasked with disinfection were arrested.
The person primarily responsible for the disinfection was previously involved in a poisoning case. He's alleged to have sprayed pesticides in the same Istanbul neighborhood in the past, resulting in a child being hospitalized. The investigation revealed that a product containing the chemical aluminum phosphide was used. There's no specific antidote for this substance.
Mother and children laid to rest
The father, mother and their two young children (aged 3 and 6), traveled to Istanbul more than a week ago. The family was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday with suspected food poisoning due to nausea and vomiting and were temporarily released. After their condition worsened, the entire family was readmitted to the hospital overnight.
Shortly afterward, both children died, followed by the mother on Friday and the father on Monday. The mother and children were already buried in the western Turkish province of Afyonkarahisar. The family has Turkish roots.

What a terrible tragedy! Also for those wrongly suspected and arrested.
Now there are even better reasons why you should always take a duvet cover with you (to sleep in).
We always aired out our hotel rooms well, mostly because of the strange smells.
We would never have imagined that you could die from insecticides in a hotel.
