I love this movie and it's prob my fav remake of any horror film. When my grandfather and I (who pretty much got me into horror movies) were watching it, he said that if it was him, he wouldn't have gone for the baby and just cut the losses and tried to get to safety with the rest of the family. And as cold as that sounds I kinda feel the same way. I realize it wouldn't be much of a movie if they just left, but in a real life situation would you go back for a baby (not even knowing if it was still alive)?

Do you even have a kid?! What kind of a stupid dumbass question is that! Off course anny sane normal parent would go find their baby. You really think someone would leave their kid behind with some crazy inbreed hicks just to save their own ass? Wow I guess one of your parent should count their blessings your grand pappy never got in a situation like thisjeez!

No I don't have a kid (im 23/F) but I'm saying I'd look at it from a logical way. He had no way of knowing even if his kid was alive, his wife just got killed and family devastated. I don't know I'm not an emotional person I make decisions based on logic not feeling. I just think in a realistic scenario I would rather take my chances with 2 other people and a dog and loose 1, then go after one who might not be alive and risk loosing the rest. shrug not bashing your opinion or anything I just couldn't bring myself to go after a baby. When I asked my best friend about it he told me if I ever got taken he wouldn't come save me. "It's every person for themselves" lol

Overreacting much? I seriously doubt this scenario would happen in real life. But I can't say what I would do since I'm 17 and don't really want kids nor do I plan on having any in the future.

I definitely would NOT have gone back for a baby. If it were two or three relatives or my mother then yes perhaps.. Sounds cold as hell, but in reality that baby would have little knowledge of it's surroundings and it more than likely would not survive to begin with. I don't understand what the issue with that is? Perhaps it's just me, but I would feel worst if it had been an elderly who was fully awareeither way, running into a situation like that with no plan would not help anyone. And he didn't really have much of a plan and got extremely lucky because it is a beep HORROR movie people.seriously

Okay, so I am not reading this whole thread but I see a lot of people have attacked you for this. The thing is, I don't know what I would do. I'd like to think that I would go after my baby, but I kind of suspect I might not.
Now as for Doug, he wasn't thinking logically. His wife had just been murdered trying to save their daughter, and the baby girl was the only part of his wife that he had left. So I can see why he went after her. I think it might also have been partly a suicide missionmaybe he just didn't want to go on living without either of them but then once he saw the baby was alive his will to live kicked back in for her. Just a thought! -

I'm going to guess that you are young and don't have children, which is why you think that way.
When you are a parent, and especially if you are a mother, you have a biological instinct to protect and save your children, even if it means you will die, even if you aren't sure your child is alive. If your house is on fire and your baby is inside, you are running in that house. If a car is on top of your baby you will get the strength to lift that car yourself and save your baby. If someone has a weapon and attacks your baby you will use all your power to take that mofo down even if you are unarmed. It is instinct, you will do it without thinking.
I would not leave my babies (both 4). I would die a slow painful death before I would let anything happen to them. If you wouldn't, you shouldn't be a parent.

This thread started out as a question, not as an invite to be attacked for her view. People have different opinions, which is interesting to explore; looking for that exploration shouldn't be cause to attack the opinions. This was a hypothetical situation in a fictional movie. All these comments about her not having a kid so she doesn't understand is negated by the fact that she watched it with her grandfather. A person who obviously had kids himself (and grandkids as well) and he was of the opinion not to go back.
For myself, it's hard to say as this was such a terrifying situation, but I think I would risk going back. -

"The baby isn't their only child"- Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the baby their only child. The other two kids (teenagers) were the guys brother and sister in law.
Also, why is having other children mean it's okay to leave your baby behind? Because you have a few spares lying around?
It's ingrained in every parent to protect their children, and I would of course without hesitation go back for my child even if I knew that I would have to die in order to save her, that's what any half decent parentor person would do. -

Well I would have gone back for my baby. Like any decent parent would have. Even if it wasn't my baby, I'd never leave without at least trying to rescue the babe. And if the baby was me, I know my parents would have gone back for me. Because my life is important to them. And apparently your kid's life wouldn't be worth very much to you.

That's a good question, because it's all in the mind and heart. If it were my baby, I would totally go back and search for him/her. I would sacrifice my life just to try and save my own child, because I can't even imagine what the hell those crazy mutants would do to him/her. Anyways, I would go back and probably end up doing what Doug did, which he killed all the mutants. Doug is a true hero and father!
Charlie: Kirby, this is making a move.
