Would YOU have gone back for the baby?

"The baby isn't their only child"- Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the baby their only child. The other two kids (teenagers) were the guys brother and sister in law.
Also, why is having other children mean it's okay to leave your baby behind? Because you have a few spares lying around?
It's ingrained in every parent to protect their children, and I would of course without hesitation go back for my child even if I knew that I would have to die in order to save her, that's what any half decent parentor person would do. -

Well I would have gone back for my baby. Like any decent parent would have. Even if it wasn't my baby, I'd never leave without at least trying to rescue the babe. And if the baby was me, I know my parents would have gone back for me. Because my life is important to them. And apparently your kid's life wouldn't be worth very much to you.

That's a good question, because it's all in the mind and heart. If it were my baby, I would totally go back and search for him/her. I would sacrifice my life just to try and save my own child, because I can't even imagine what the hell those crazy mutants would do to him/her. Anyways, I would go back and probably end up doing what Doug did, which he killed all the mutants. Doug is a true hero and father!

Of course. He had just lost his wife, his mother in law, and his father in law, so his daughter was all he had. And if he were to leave without his daughter, that would just be letting the villains win. You're probably not a parent, so imagine that it was your little baby brother or sister (assuming you have one). Would you want to go back for them?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't their cars still messed up at that time? If so, it seems like even if they didn't go after the baby, they'd still be sitting ducks while the mutants picked them off. Even putting the baby aspect aside, I think Doug's idea did have some merit. I doubt any of the mutants would expect someone to come after them.
When you add in the part about the grieving father and the need to rescue the only remaining member of his personal family, it seems like what he did made sense.

I believe any parent would go back to look for the baby. Whether they will be able to rescue, let alone find the baby is whole another story. The same question was raised in Liam Neeson's Taken. In both cases, it was obvious they were abducted to be abused not just killed. The parents sensed that and believed they can be found with immediate action. I am sure you would do the same. I am little surprised by your grandfathers's view on this.
I just watched this movie yesterday. Doug and Beast rescuing the baby sequence was heroic. It is not over the top. -

Not everyone has to be in a situation to know what they would do. I'm not a mother (and I'm 38 yrs old & have always wanted kids), but I know if I were, I would never leave my baby behind, no matter what. And for that matter, if it were my niece or nephew (who are 9 & 12 yrs. old), I would go back for them. No question about it.
