me neither, but i'm gonna put Satantango and this one on my to-read list now:
i havent seen The Man from London yet, but i also love those other films that are all between 9 and 10/10 for me, with my fav being Satantango.

            whatev.
it's already 2220 in budapest and my best hungo friend is asleep already after a challenging day with a 4 month old, but i will message her tomorrow and ask for her objective take on this guy not only as a nobel prize worthy but also if the novels you mentioned are any good.
and i think Tarr Bela- Public sevice announcement:- hungos use the family name first, then the given name- isnt a very good director. the moviemaking didnt excite me.

                soapbox original gangster — 5 months ago(October 11, 2025 05:51 PM)

she replied late my time last night/ very early morning Budapest clock. she's highly educated- degree in English, Law degree; well traveled; into fine art, photog; and is a hardcore practicing Roman Catholic: so hardC that last september 2024 when my friend and i(and where we were at the time) were existentially threatened by a large hurricane, I messaged her and asked totally sarcastically for her to kindly offer up a " non-sectarian prayer to keep Hurricane Helene away." she went to Saint Stephen's Basilica and lit prayer candles and formally prayed for our safety. She's not a flat earth or young earth tard. But i do fear for her soul since she's best friends with me and my friend and I'm on God's hitlist for blaspheming
                the Nazarene
( sam neill reference from Omen 3. watch it if you havent already seen it)
this is her exact response to my asking if she thought her countryman deserved the Nobel:
I think he does deserve the recognition. He has been elemental to experimental art worldwide (literature, film and music) since the 1980s. He has a distinctive narrative style that is poetic, philosophical, playful and ultimately really depressive. I haven’t read all of the Nobel Laureates, but the ones I have deserved immortality

oh wow, thank you for telling me about the writer and what your friend says about him. she seems to really know her stuff lol and what she says sounds very intriguing and piques my interest in reading his books.
also Lol at your relationship with her
i don't know anyone close to me that is very religious or even believes in a god entity. we are all a bunch of non-believers here in Germany. i only go into these old ass churches for the art that's in there and that solemn feeling that i get when i'm sitting or walking around in that building that whispers so much of its history it's carrying in its ancient old walls. i don't become god-fearing or anything when i'm in those churches, i feel more of a deep respect for the fleeting, impermanent nature of time and existence, and yet, these churches are still here and have stood the test of literally 1,000s of years. especially Rome's ancient buildings are really sth else.
i'm sure you Americans with your baby architecture and churches that are merely like 100 years old can't relate tho. you poor Americans go into your ugly ass churches bc you are being forced to worship some imaginary entity. i go into churches bc i'm pursuing a higher spiritual experience.
