It did have an ending, what is all the fuss about it not having an ending! What did you want armed police to swarm the school, round up the faceless thugs and then send them on holiday with a new pair of trainers because the poor dears are misunderstood. In the beginning, the way Robert was treated after being attacked should have given you a clue about how it might have ended!!
    A good film!

i think it just didnt tie up any of the characters or the issues well enough.
every film should have at least some character development. thats what makes a films watchable, imo. so the teacher/dad character went from scared/paranoid to rightly scared/slightly better connection with his daughter. but really what is this conneciton based on? their shared horrific experience?i doubt their relationship will be much better once they ve recovered from the situation. also he sacrificed the life of the mother (most likely). i dont think the daughter is ever going to forgive him for that. even though, this way he probably saved the daughters life.
then the killers. they portrayed too much like ghoulish, ghost figures who moved like snowtigers and had no faces like demons. i think they should have either revealed whether this was a fantastical element (pure evil) or realistic criminals who had some kind of motivation (even if it was just boredom).
for those reasons, i think the ending was satisfying.

Maybe the faceless killers were representative of a future generation of the youngsters the father was up against. When kids rule and make the rules and ruin lives, with physical assault, and accusations how long before they turn into cold, heartless killers!

I was disappointed with the ending, but reckon they were trying to show the teacher as having made a cold, calculated decision to save his daughter and let his wife die, meaning he would gain custody and be able to rebuild their relationship.

He had to choose between his kid who didn't like him much, had lost all respect for him as a person or teacher, was willing to get him sacked for slapping her (she deserved it)or, his estranged wife who left him in his hour of need.when he needed someone to support him she did what all woman do? He chose the kidand we assume she went to her doom? great ending!

I loved the ending. During that last shot I just thought "what a perfect ending this would be, please let the credits roll after this" and they did. I was quite surprised to find out that the ending seems to be so big problem to so many viewers.

And the producers of the movie collected money of the people who think the movie was good!

I'm sorry, what is your point? How do producers get more money from those who thought the movie was good?

I agree that the ending didn't make much sense. Given the way things turned out, it would've been much better to see the father leaving with his daughter and THEN have seen the mother come to the school (i.e., without the father/main character and daughter knowing that the mother was there).
Some other posters here have said that main character left because he didn't want to be a suspect. Well, how does him leaving the scene of the crime with a pile of dead bodies differ from him staying there with them? In all probability his daughter will live and she can serve as an eyewitness to the events, but the circumstantial evidence just wouldn't add up. At most (besides the one hooded student he killed), he touched two victims (the headmaster/principal and the fellow teacher who said he stunk) and he threw up when he saw the dead headmaster/principal. It just wouldn't add up.

Basically I think the clue as to who did it is the newspapers around his room.
The boy who hit him at the beginning went on to form a violent gang, so it is most likely them doing it.

Am I the only one who thinks that the teacher is actually the killer who hallucinated lots of it? If you've seen the French slasher HAUTE TENSION I think you'll know what I mean.

I thought this too, in particular when Robert stabbed one of the hoodies near the end & the camera cut to his daughter with a stab wound in her stomach. I also thought that when the security guard locked him in the room, the security guard was an accomplice of the hoodies & the whole attack on the school had been part of a plan to set up Robert, perhaps initiated by the headmistress who wanted to sack Robert but couldn't because of intervention by his union.
F not only reminded me of Haute Tension but another French film, Ills (aka Them), highly recommended if you haven't seen it!

I got Haute Tension (switchblade romance) on DVD.
Even if Black Christmas 1974 where the heroine, Olivia Hussey may be the culprit, it points to her possible whereabouts and her hallucinations.
But Robert Anderson wasn't not there when the guy was burning in the trash can, because he was in detention with Kate, his Daughter.
Plus he was not bothered with security cameras, so he knows they are recording everything, and the killers concealed their I.D.
I believe it was a organised gang of killer teens that are the vengeful brotherhood. Simple as that.

Yeah I agree. Normally I love "different" endings but this one was too much for me. I just sat there in a daze waiting for something after the credits. Quite odd. I needed some kind of resolution for this one to sit right with me.

I've just watched this film on TV here in the UK and as it went along I came to the conclusion that there were no hoodies at all and that it was the teacher who was doing all the killingsanyone ever thought of that? Towards the end where he stabbed a 'hoodie' you saw a knife going in but his daughter got stabbed. It was the teacher who had his back to the hooded phantom not his daughter. So basically I think he had a mental breakdown after his initial assault. Everyone who was murdered never mentioned a hooded character and the school staff didnt like the teacher anyway. In the end he didnt take his daughter to his wife because he knew of the consequences. So i think we were being cleverly tricked into thinking there were hoodies in the school, their faces wernt seen because they were nt there!creepy.

Yes, I just watched it on tv and had just finished writing a comment complaining about the ending as I was also fooled by the 'hoodies'. I have deleted my first message mainly out of embarrassment. I had read someone else's message and after I thought about it I came to the same conclusion as them, and now you. The end doesn't seem quite so bad after all if that's correct!
